What's the Point?

Romantic relationships are costly. They require so much emotional and mental capital, with very very little returns. So what's the point? Is it momentary, selfish satisfaction at the cost of someone else? Is it blips of of ephemeral, wavering happiness?

What's the point?

  1. that is the point! anything 'costly' can only be worthwhile (at least at some point in time). i doubt anyone will ever incur costs by doing something that utterly pointless. based on what we know, romantic relationships, therefore, can only be thought of as an inevitable part of young adult life. eric erickson spent his whole career explaining why.

That's ridiculous. Gold is costly but it is practically useless. Gambling is costly but is practically useless.

And, you have not answered the question.
